  • Vintage Notes

A vintage year of extraordinary weather challenges, where our commitment to early pruning and sustainable viticulture was vital to the successful growth of quality, balanced fruit. A strong cyclone season resulted in increased rainfall and unusual growing conditions throughout the region. Budburst and flowering across all varieties was normal and initial crop predictions very encouraging, but a cool, wet spring prompted the need for significant leaf plucking and canopy management to mitigate risk of disease. Warmer than average weather conditions returned in December and January, assisting with the ripening of our Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. Further rainfall events in February and March, followed by moist, humid conditions, increased the risk of botrytis. Regular, careful leaf plucking to improve air flow made all the difference, allowing our Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon to progress well into autumn. In sharp contrast to V2020, Marri tree blossom was abundant, significantly reducing pressure from birds. The growing season came to a rapid end in mid-April when Cyclone Seroja formed off the north-west coast of Western Australia, forcing a rapid final harvest to gather in all remaining fruit still out on the vines. Our excellent vineyard management and viticulture team handled the weather and growing conditions with great skill and confidence, allowing us to bring in fantastic quality fruit with little-to-no-disease in our vineyards.

  • Winemaking

Pristine Syrah fruit is picked in the cool early hours of morning, gently destemmed and pressed immediately to extract only the purest juice, the most delicate flavours and a blush of colour. The juice is settled overnight before being racked to ferment in stainless steel, ensuring that we harvest only the lightest solids and textural elements. After a long cool ferment the wine undergoes battonage once a fortnight for 4 months in order to extract every last drop of texture, weight and complexity from the fine lees. When aging is complete the wine is blended, lightly fined and filtered before bottling.

  • Tasting Notes

Aromas of rose petal and ripe strawberries, cherries and watermelon, gently intertwined with fine white tannins. Blistering natural acidity provides length to the palate, balanced by a persistent mineral finish of cherry blossoms and citrus.
